Reagan only eats when Rhyan feeds her! She wont eat for DC and I. We laughed after the girls went to bed the other night....thinking of the occasion when we check Rhyan out of school. Our excuse = Uh, Mrs. Principal we need to check out Rhyan for 30 mins, she has to go home and feed her 5 month old sister. LOL

Extinction and Preschoolers

How does one explain dinosaur extinction to a four yr old without being too technical. I could never be an elementary school teacher. I have no patience with lil ones. Ironic my current occupation is SAHM whose trying to teach an everyday pre-k curriculum to a my four yr old. Funny thing... I was at the bookstore the other day and came across these books titled, "Everything your Preschooler needs to Know" and one for kindergartners. I immediately wanted to purchase it. I'm such a fool when it comes to self-help books like these and childrearing books. Im a publishers dream customer. So while explaining my five minute history lesson on dinosaurs and extinction - Rhy asked why Heavenly father didnt help the dinosaurs. "Why did he let them die mommy??" Good question. So I also went into a discussion about how fire sometimes can be a good thing and they help the soil replenish all its nutrients. yadda yadda yadda! So that got me thinking, anything and everything about science and such she questions the Lord's involvement. Man o man. Parenthood...*sigh*!

This was my explanation to TJ as to why the dinosaurs died. It really goes back to Biblical times. According to scientific reasearch, dinosaurs would have lived right after God created the world. Though we aren't given a timeline in scripture, the Lord flooded the entire earth during Noah's day sometime after creation. SO- Noah was from the area that we now refer to as the middle-east, and dinosaur remains were primarily found in North and South America. (show her a map or globe if it helps) My only conclusion is that the dinosaurs were on a continent yet to be discovered, and God figured they would have been too big to fit on the ark, anyway. So, it's not that God let them die, it's more like it was just impossible for Noah to get them all the way where he was, and even if he did, the boat just wasn't big enough! But, God left their bones for us to find so that we knew they had once lived and so we could study about them. It's really a Bible/Science lesson rolled into one. Of course, schools will teach differently, but for now it satisfied TJ. We loved it!
